Epitalon dosage: chart, reported range and vial math

The range reported for Epitalon is 1 to 10 mg a day in short courses. The only human doses on record are far smaller and by other routes: 5 mcg injected beside the eye, and 0.5 mg a day under the tongue. It is not approved in the US or Canada.

How to mix a Epitalon vial

These steps are for the 10 mg vial picked in the chart. Change the size there and the amounts here change with it.

  1. Wash your hands. Wipe the stopper of the peptide vial and the water vial with an alcohol swab.
  2. Draw 1 mL of bacteriostatic water into a syringe.
  3. Push the needle through the stopper of the peptide vial and let the water run slowly down the glass, not straight onto the powder.
  4. Swirl the vial gently until the powder is gone. Do not shake it.
  5. Write the date and 10 mg/mL on the vial, then put it in the fridge.

What Epitalon is

Epitalon is a synthetic tetrapeptide, Ala-Glu-Asp-Gly (AEDG), designed from the amino acid composition of Epithalamin, an extract of bovine pineal gland. [1]

Other names: Epithalon, Epithalone, AEDG, Ala-Glu-Asp-Gly.

How it has been given to people: in the two human studies with a stated dose: injection beside the eye (parabulbar) and under the tongue (sublingual); no human study of injection under the skin or into muscle with a stated dose was found.

What to know before reading a dose

  • Human data are thin and not independently replicated. Each human study found shares authors or an affiliation with the St. Petersburg Institute of Bioregulation and Gerontology [2], [3], [4].
  • The 12-year and 15-year follow-up studies that reported lower mortality tested epithalamin, a peptide extract of pineal gland, not the synthetic tetrapeptide Epitalon [8], [9]. They are not evidence for Epitalon.
  • The telomere results are from cells in culture, not from people. One of those studies also saw telomeres lengthen in cancer cell lines [7].
  • No human trial of Epitalon injected under the skin or into muscle with a stated dose was found.
  • Not an approved medicine in the US or Canada as of the check date. Health Canada lists it among unauthorized injectable peptide drugs it has seized [11].
  • FDA compounding status: on the FDA page current as of 2026-04-22, epitalon is not in the table of substances now in category 2. It is in a separate list of substances that were in category 2 and were then withdrawn by their nominators [10].

Doses on record for Epitalon

Every dose below was given in a human study or printed on an approved label, and each links to its source. Doses set by body weight are left that way.

Human studyRetinitis pigmentosa study at the St. Petersburg Institute of Bioregulation and Gerontology; injection beside the eye (parabulbar). Dose as reported in a 2025 review; the PubMed abstract of the primary paper (S2) gives no dose. What the evidence shows

Each finding is tagged by the kind of study it comes from. Human trials are listed first.

Small human study

In patients with degenerative retinal disease (retinitis pigmentosa), the authors reported a positive clinical effect in 90% of cases. The abstract gives no dose and no patient count. [2]

Small human study

In elderly people with low pineal function, Epithalamin and Epitalon were reported to raise night-time melatonin. The abstract gives no dose, route or number of people. [3]

Small human study

AEDG peptide was reported to raise urinary 6-sulfatoxymelatonin excretion 1.7-fold in middle-aged people. The abstract gives no dose. [4]

Lab study

Added to cultured human fetal fibroblasts, Epitalon switched on telomerase and lengthened telomeres. This is a cell-culture result, not a result in people. [5]

Lab study

In blood lymphocytes taken from 11 men and treated in culture, telomere length rose significantly in 5, fell in 2 and did not change significantly in 4. [6]

Lab study

A UK university laboratory outside the original group reported dose-dependent telomere lengthening in normal human cells in culture. In the same study telomeres also lengthened in breast cancer cell lines. [7]

Side effects and warnings

Reported in human studies or on a label:

  • The review's account of the retinitis pigmentosa study says no treated patient reported side effects. [1]
  • The abstract of the study in elderly people describes the pineal preparations as having no side effects. No independent human safety study was found. [3]
  • FDA says it has not identified safety information for epitalon and names immune reactions from aggregation and peptide impurities as possible risks of compounded product. [10]

Epitalon has no approved label in the US or Canada for this use, so there is no official list of who should not use it, no interaction list and no missed-dose rule.

Storage

Keep an unmixed vial the way its label says. Once it is mixed, keep it in the fridge, do not freeze it, and write the mixing date on the vial.

Epitalon dosage questions

How many units is 5 mg of Epitalon from a 10 mg vial?

Mixed with 1 mL of bacteriostatic water, a 10 mg vial is 10 mg/mL. 5 mg is 0.50 mL, which is 50 units on a U-100 syringe.

How much water goes in a 10 mg Epitalon vial?

1 mL gives 10 mg/mL. At that strength the doses in the chart sit at 10, 50, 100 units on a U-100 syringe.

How many doses are in a 10 mg vial?

Whole doses in one vial: 10 at 1 mg, 2 at 5 mg, 1 at 10 mg.

Is Epitalon approved in the US?

Not FDA approved. FDA lists epitalon among bulk substances that were in compounding category 2 and whose nominations were then withdrawn.

Is Epitalon authorized in Canada?

No epitalon product in the Health Canada Drug Product Database. Health Canada names Epitalon among unauthorized injectable peptide drugs it has seized.

What human dosing data is there for Epitalon?

Human data are thin and not independently replicated. Each human study found shares authors or an affiliation with the St. Petersburg Institute of Bioregulation and Gerontology.

Looked for and not found

  • No human study of Epitalon injected under the skin or into muscle with a stated dose. The only human dose figures found are 5.0 mcg per eye injected beside the eye and 0.5 mg a day under the tongue.
  • Both dose figures come from a 2025 review [1], not from the primary papers. The primary retinitis pigmentosa paper [2] and the paper on elderly people [3] were not available in full text, and their PubMed abstracts give no dose.
  • No human half-life or other pharmacokinetic figure. A PubMed search for epitalon or epithalon with pharmacokinetics, half-life or bioavailability returned nothing.
  • No trial registered on ClinicalTrials.gov: searches for epitalon and epithalon as the intervention returned no studies.
  • No approved label was found in the US or Canadian sources searched, so no official dose, contraindications, interaction list or storage instructions.
  • Not named on the WADA Prohibited List (page checked 2026-10-10, [13]). The list also has an open class, S0, for substances with no current approval by any governmental health authority for human therapeutic use; whether it applies to this compound was not determined here.
