Ipamorelin dosage: chart, reported range and vial math
The range reported for ipamorelin is 100 to 300 mcg per injection, one to three times a day. Every published human dose was given into a vein and set by body weight, and the one trial with results found no benefit over placebo. It is not approved in the US or Canada.

How to mix a Ipamorelin vial
These steps are for the 2 mg vial picked in the chart. Change the size there and the amounts here change with it.
- Wash your hands. Wipe the stopper of the peptide vial and the water vial with an alcohol swab.
- Draw 2 mL of bacteriostatic water into a syringe.
- Push the needle through the stopper of the peptide vial and let the water run slowly down the glass, not straight onto the powder.
- Swirl the vial gently until the powder is gone. Do not shake it.
- Write the date and 1 mg/mL on the vial, then put it in the fridge.
| Vial | Bacteriostatic water | Concentration |
|---|---|---|
| 2 mg vial | 2 mL | 1 mg/mL |
| 5 mg vial | 3 mL | 1.6667 mg/mL |

What Ipamorelin is
Ipamorelin is a synthetic five amino acid peptide (a growth hormone secretagogue) that makes the pituitary release growth hormone through the GHRP (ghrelin) receptor, not the GHRH receptor. [1]
Other names: ipamorelin acetate, NNC 26-0161.
How it has been given to people: intravenous infusion in every published human dosing study; no published human study of injection under the skin was found.
What to know before reading a dose
- Not an approved medicine in the US or Canada as of the check date. Every dose on record is a trial dose.
- Every human dose on record was given by intravenous infusion in a study or hospital setting, per kilogram of body weight. No published human study of injection under the skin was found.
- The only efficacy trial with published results (postoperative ileus) found no significant benefit over placebo.
- FDA cites a published report of serious adverse events including death with intravenous ipamorelin [10].
- In mice, ipamorelin increased body fat relative to body weight [6]; no human body-composition study was found.
- The claim that ipamorelin does not raise cortisol rests on a swine study in the sources read [1].
- Compounding status is often quoted out of date: as of FDA's pages dated 04/22/2026 and May 14, 2026, ipamorelin acetate is in category 2 only under the 503B policy and is listed as nominated but withdrawn otherwise [10], [11].

What the evidence shows
Each finding is tagged by the kind of study it comes from. Human trials are listed first.
Randomized human trial
In the one efficacy trial with published results (postoperative ileus after bowel surgery), median time to the first tolerated meal was 25.3 hours on ipamorelin and 32.6 hours on placebo, a difference that was not statistically significant. [3]
Randomized human trial
The trial found no significant difference between ipamorelin and placebo on its key or secondary efficacy measures. [3]
Small human study
In healthy men a single intravenous infusion produced one burst of growth hormone that peaked at about 0.67 hours and then fell away, at every dose tested. [2]
Small human study
After a nasal dose given to a single volunteer for a doping-test study, ipamorelin was heavily metabolised and appeared in urine as parent compound plus metabolites. [5]
Animal study
In swine, ipamorelin released growth hormone without raising ACTH or cortisol beyond what GHRH itself did. This selectivity finding is from an animal study. [1]
Animal study
In mice, twice-daily ipamorelin under the skin raised fat pad weight relative to body weight, and growth hormone secretagogue treatment raised relative body fat, leptin and food intake. [6]
Animal study
In rats given a glucocorticoid for 3 months, adding ipamorelin raised calf muscle tetanic tension and periosteal bone formation compared with the glucocorticoid alone. [7]
Animal study
In a rat model of postoperative ileus, repeated intravenous dosing increased faecal output, food intake and body weight gain. [8]
Animal study
In rats, about 20% of an intranasal dose of ipamorelin reached the circulation. [9]
Side effects and warnings
Reported in human studies or on a label:
- In the Phase 2 trial, adverse events of any kind were recorded in 87.5% of the ipamorelin group and 94.8% of the placebo group. All patients had just had bowel surgery. [3]
- The trial authors described 0.03 mg/kg intravenously twice daily for up to 7 days as well tolerated. [3]
- FDA states that a published study identified serious adverse events, including death, when ipamorelin was given intravenously to improve gastric motility. [10]
- FDA says it has no safety information for other injectable routes. [10]
- FDA says compounded ipamorelin may trigger immune reactions by some routes because of possible aggregation or peptide impurities. [10]
Ipamorelin has no approved label in the US or Canada for this use, so there is no official list of who should not use it, no interaction list and no missed-dose rule.
Storage
Keep an unmixed vial the way its label says. Once it is mixed, keep it in the fridge, do not freeze it, and write the mixing date on the vial.
Ipamorelin dosage questions
How many units is 200 mcg of Ipamorelin from a 2 mg vial?
Mixed with 2 mL of bacteriostatic water, a 2 mg vial is 1 mg/mL. 200 mcg is 0.20 mL, which is 20 units on a U-100 syringe.
How much water goes in a 2 mg Ipamorelin vial?
2 mL gives 1 mg/mL. At that strength the doses in the chart sit at 10, 20, 30 units on a U-100 syringe.
How many doses are in a 2 mg vial?
Whole doses in one vial: 20 at 100 mcg, 10 at 200 mcg, 6 at 300 mcg.
Is Ipamorelin approved in the US?
Not FDA approved; FDA keeps ipamorelin acetate in category 2 (significant safety risks) under its 503B compounding policy and also lists it among nominated substances withdrawn by their nominators.
Is Ipamorelin authorized in Canada?
No ipamorelin product is in Health Canada's Drug Product Database, and Health Canada names ipamorelin among unauthorized injectable peptide drugs it has seized.
What is the half-life of Ipamorelin?
Terminal half-life of about 2 hours after a 15-minute intravenous infusion in healthy men. No human figure after injection under the skin was found.
What human dosing data is there for Ipamorelin?
Not an approved medicine in the US or Canada as of the check date. Every dose on record is a trial dose.
